TimberSIL® Wood Pergola – Class-A Fire Rated

New California fire regulations require only class-A fire rated and Cal Fire approved  building materials to be used in high fire zones such as Santa Barbara. The California State Fire Marshal’s Office publishes a list of approved building materials that are suitable for use in high fire areas called the Wildland Urban Interface Handbook. TimberSIL is listed as “Ignition Resistant” in the W.U.I. Handbook, only achievable by first undergoing an accelerated weathering test , then passing the ASTM-E84 fire test with a flame spread rating of 25 or less. TimberSIL’s flame spread rating was 8.6!

This wooden pergola built in Santa Barbara is constructed of an assortment of different sizes of TimberSIL® glass fortified wood, and painted white. It looks good!

TimberSIL® Wood Park Bench

This wooden park bench is constructed out of  TimberSIL® glass fortified wood, it’s stained and sealed with Penofin oil wood finish.  TimberSIL® was selected for both it’s resistance to insects and rot damages as well as it’s much higher strength and hardness over composite wood products. The attractive look of natural wood gives this park bench a old west feel, you just can’t get that authentic look with plastics and other fake wood products.

Painted TimberSIL® Wood Gate

These are photos of a TimberSIL® wood gate and mini trellis recently constructed by an Orange County homeowner. As you can see, TimberSIL® wood is able to be machined, cut and painted much like natural wood.
